Thank you for your time! By answering this survey, you are helping to inform design of an biodiversity metric due to be rolled out across the UK by Natural England in the coming years. All answers will remain entirely anonymous, and will help shape design of a metric to maximise ecological gain in development of an area.

On a scale of 1-10, (1 being Strongly Disagree, 10 being Strongly Agree), please rate your response to the following statement.

‘An approach which standardises the definition of 'Biodiversity' to make development of land simpler and faster is something I agree with’

On a scale of 1-10, (1 being Strongly Disagree, 10 being Strongly Agree), please rate your response to the following statement.

'Developers should be required to pay for and deliver biodiversity enhancements in order to obtain planning permission?'

Net gain is defined by Natural England as:  'an approach to development, and/or land management, which aims to leave the natural environment in a measurably better state than beforehand.'

No Net Loss is defined by Natural England as: 'Achieving a NNL goal for a given project ultimately (i.e. in the long-term) means no net reduction in the: diversity within and among species and vegetation types; long–term viability of species and vegetation types; and  functioning of species assemblages and ecosystems, including ecological and evolutionary processes.'

'Clarity and consistency of requirements of practitioners within the industry is key to achieving an effective biodiversity net gain'
On a scale of 1-10, (1 being Strongly Disagree, 10 being Strongly Agree), please rate your response to the following statement.

'I believe there is adequate guidance from governing organisations to help me successfully achieve a biodiversity net gain in development projects'

‘Biodiversity offsetting is beneficial for both ecological and social improvement objectives’

Natural England define Ecosystem Services as 'services and benefits provided by ecosystems and their natural processes'

On a scale of 1-10, (1 being Strongly Disagree, 10 being Strongly Agree), please rate your response to the following statement.

'Ecosystem services is considered an important priority when carrying out development activity'

'Ecosystem services are as important as ecological improvement in development projects'

Are you familiar with the definition of the term 'Biodiversity Metrics'?
The Natural England definition of a metric is 'a set of measurements that quantifies results'.
The biodiversity metric 2.0 is designed to provide ecologists, developers, planners and other interested parties with a means of assessing changes in biodiversity value (losses or gains) brought about by development or changes in land management.
On a scale of 1-10, (1 being Strongly Disagree, 10 being Strongly Agree), please rate your response to the following statement.

'I believe a metric tool is currently the best way to measure biodiversity within an area'

On a scale of 1-10, (1 being Strongly Disagree, 10 being Strongly Agree), please rate your response to the following statement.

'The Biodiversity Metric 2.0 has all the required features to help successfully achieve a 10% Net Gain outcome from development projects'.
